Australia Health Minister Mark Butler said in a statement on Wednesday that pharmacies will be restricted to producing compound GLP-1 receptor agonist products-a class of drugs that help control blood sugar levels-for individual patients. The loophole previously allowed the production of products similar to Ozempic that had not been approved by Australia regulators.

The Australia government's move is supported by the country's Medicines Administration, and internationally, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned of the dangers of injecting some compound products after adverse events in the United States.
